ONE of India’s leading television writers, Dheeraj Sarna, has won a top industry award for a drama series which is very popular both in India and the UK.

Dheeraj Sarna received a Golden Petal Award for his notable contribution to Thapki Pyaar Ki, which is shown on Colors TV Channel in the UK, and has built up an extremely strong following with British Asians.

The prestigious Golden Petal Awards was set up several years ago to celebrate the top talents in the Indian television industry. This year’s glamorous awards event was held at Filmcity, in Mumbai.

Based on a father-daughter relationship, the soaring popularity of Thapki Pyaar Ki among British-Asian viewers in the UK is mainly due to the outstanding performances by the show’s newcomer heroine, Jigyasa Singh and veteran actor, Shaktee Singh, pictured above.

The show also features well-known models, Sangeeta Srivastava and Hardik Sangani.  Produced by SOL Productions and Shoonya Square Productions, Thapki Pyaar Ki premiered in the UK a year ago.

The story revolves around a girl named Thapki who stammers. However, she doesn’t let her incapability destroy her cheerful and obedient character. The cast of Thapki Pyaar Ki includes Ankit Bathla, Manish Goplani, Jaya Bhattacharya, Resham Thakkar, Prateeksha Lonkar and Jairoop Jeevan.

Thapki Pyaar Ki is shown daily in the UK every day and Colors TV UK, owned by Viacom, is available on Sky 821, Virgin 826 and Freesat 662.
