The UK director of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Pratik Dattani, has announced he’s to step down from the role this month.
Mr Dattani, who is also managing director of London and Bangalore-based economic research firm EPG, took up the role of UK director at the FICCI three years ago. Dr Param Shah, current head of the FICCI – Gujarat State Council, will take over as UK director in the coming days.
Established in 1927, the business group positions itself as the voice of India’s business and industry and has ties with more than 300 industry associations and chambers around the world. Speaking to IndiaGBnews earlier this year, Mr Dattani highlighted the strong and growing trade ties between India and the UK.
“The contribution of Indian businesses to the London economy has continued to go up over the last few years across a range of sectors,” he said. “IoT, AI, and innovation are areas where there are increasing opportunities between India and London.”
Announcing his departure, Mr Dattani said: “It has been an absolute pleasure being FICCI UK director for the past three years, but the time has come to pass on the baton.
“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities the role has given me. In particular, I’m grateful to Dr A Didar Singh, secretary general; Ambika Sharma, director general, FICCI; and Vindi Banga, head of the India Advisory Group in the UK.”
He also paid special tribute to Bavleen Kaur, joint-director, international office at the FICCI.
Over the past three years, Mr Dattani has hosted several ministers from central government, seen one of his reports launched by India’s finance minister Arun Jaitley, attended market openings at the London Stock Exchange and supported a wide variety of delegations from around the world.
Following his departure from the FICCI, Mr Dattani said he’ll spend more time on economic and market research with EPG and on charity due diligence. He also hopes to spend time in East Africa and South Africa, particularly with the multiple start-up incubators EPG is advising.
Dr A Didar Singh, secretary general of the FICCI, said: “FICCI is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Param Shah as Director, FICCI – UK. He will succeed Mr Pratik Dattani whose tenure with FICCI ends on August 15. FICCI also recognises the contribution of Mr Pratik Dattani for accomplishing FICCI’s various initiatives in the UK.”
He added: “We are hopeful that Dr Param Shah, with his experience and enthusiasm, will be able to build newer partnerships for FICCI in the UK, and strengthen the existing ones.”
Dr Shah holds a masters degree in business administration, specialising in international marketing. He also holds a PhD in the area of management. His professional work experience spans more than 15 years, eight of those in association with FICCI as the head of FICCI – Gujarat State Council.
