Plans to create a new five-star hotel on Peter Street in Manchester city centre have received the backing of renowned Bollywood playback singer Asha Bhosle.
According to a report by the Manchester Evening News, the new venue, Forty Seven, will offer 47 boutique bedrooms located above Asha’s Manchester, a contemporary Indian restaurant co-owned by the prolific recording artist.
The singer of countless Bollywood hits, Asha began her career in 1943. In 2011 she entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in history, having laid-down up to 11,000 solo, duet and chorus-backed songs.
Today, she is also the name and creative force behind a global Indian restaurant chain that has 13 locations spread across five countries.
A formal planning application for the hotel is due to be submitted to the council this month. It will also include a proposal for a new underground bar on the site.
Asha’s Manchester restaurant opened its doors in 2015, while KRO Hospitality purchased the freehold for the Peter Street building in mid-2018.
Speaking to the newspaper, KRO Hospitality owner Kim Eivind Krohn said Asha’s restaurant would be the heart and soul of the new hotel.
Asha Bhosle travelled from India to Manchester this week to meet Mr Krohn and discuss plans for Forty Seven.
When asked about her thoughts on the development, she told the newspaper: “I like this building very much and I think Kim has very good intentions. I’m very happy – I’ll be the first to stay here.”
