Mancunians can hear one of India’s top vocalists Pt Nagraj Rao Havaldar and Hema Upasani on July 28, 29 at the Jubilee Centre, The Firs, Bowdon, Altrincham, between 7PM – 10PM and 4.30 – 7.00 pm respectively . The event is being organised by a private group of Indian music enthusiasts.
Pandit Dr. Nagaraj Rao Havaldar a leading artist of the traditional Kirana Gharana (style). His concert will be a mix of Hindi, Marathi and Kannada classical compositions and Bhajans.
Havaldar and Hema will be both accompanied by talented UK musicians – the artist on Tabla will be Hamit Walia and on harmonium and keyboards will be Dr Mukul Acharya.
Havaldar is a disciple Pandit Madhava Gudi, himself a prime disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. He is also a disciple of Pt. Panchakshari Swami Mattigatti, a senior disciple of Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, from whom he has imbibed the niceties of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. Pt. Havaldar brings to his performances the subtle understanding of a scholar and the finesse of an aesthete.
Hema Neralkar Upasani is the daughter of renowned PT.NATH NERALKAR who is one of the greatest HIDUSTANI CLASSICAL VOCALIST from Maharashtra, India.
Hema has done her M.A.music from S.N.D.T University in PUNE. With rare distinction of having secured 5 prizes at the S.N.D.T University in different aspects of music, she is known and famous for her versatile performances.
She has a sonorous voice groomed with indefatigable Riyaz (practise). Her Raag Dari (classical singing) has the power to touch the chords of the soul of the listeners. Hema has intuitively mastered the art of Gazal singing . An aesthetic innovation in each concert is her forte. She has carved a place for herself by singing Bhajans and Gazals in her exclusive style.
Hema is a rare blend of academic excellence and performance. Her art and her devotion are embodied in her voice Through her voice, Hema voices all human emotions and sentiments.
Among the many accolades and achievements she has won the Sangeet Visharad and Sangeet Alankar of Akhil Bhartiya Ghandharva Mahavidhayala.
Dr Mrinal Shah would be providing the vocal and Tanpura support at Hema’s concert. Dr Mrinal Shah is a trained Semi-Classical and Light Music singer and is currently learning Classical Vocal from Hema.
